CRISIS RESPONSE

Our carefully crafted crisis response programs guide educators to support youth to process and respond to events that are beyond their control but impact them greatly.

  • Telling History Project Bosnia

GenHR implemented reconciliation history projects for youth in Bosnia and Herzegovina following the war and genocide which lasted from 1992-1995. The projects took place from 2002-2010. Our programs began in the capital city of Sarajevo and from there expanded to four other cities; Lukavica, Foca, Biljelina, and Mostar.

  • Sarajevo Peace Conference

GenHR was invited to take part in the Sarajevo International Peace Conference in 2014. GenHR was able to not only lead youth workshops in the city, but we also created a project on the spot to bring youth to Begov Han, a recently flooded village art relief to children. On May 20th, extreme floods affected Bosnia, Serbia, and Croatia and left cities and villages underwater, and triggered over 3,000 landslides.

  • 9/11 Trauma Relief Program

Immediately following the tragic events of September 11th, 2001, the Children’s Movement for Creative Education launched a trauma-relief program to help students in grades Kindergarten-6th Grade understand and process the tragedy through art, writing, and historical context.

  • Hurricane Sandy Art Relief Caravan Project

The project launched a week following Hurricane Sandy as a response to attend to the emotional needs of the children and teens in the most adversely affected communities The project ran for the next twelve months, ending in August 2013. It was an incredible year and we captured the impact it had on our young participants and their families (through video and word which is featured) on our website.
